Re: [GWL]: A New Rant

Who was it who said "No generalization is true, not
even this one"?

It's highly probable that there is, indeed, a "germ of
truth" to some of these "myths". But there are some
that have no truth whatsoever behind them, only
perpetuation of concept.

Many of us are admittedly simply reporters and it just
may be appropriate for those of us to discuss both
sides of these issues in a book or lengthy article.
In this case, maybe we let the readers make the final
decision.

But some of us find it appropriate to "lay down the
law". It's our role. Most readers, as far as I know,
want the most current information and we have to do
our best to provide such facts. I, for one, do not
wish to leave the reader wondering whether they should
be doing "X" or "Y" in their own garden. Aside from a
book, the formats we are given (newspaper, magazine)
allow us little more than to provide the 1-2-3's. And
the 1-2-3's better damn well be the most accurate.

I don't know who among us does not take sides on many
issues. As Bill says, "Our best strategy is to make
sure that we are experienced and well-educated as
gardeners ourselves before sitting down at the
keyboard". I take that to mean that when we discover
the better or more appropriate way to do something, we
pass that along to our readers. If such is tanamount
to "debunking", so be it.
