RE: Gardens in France

Hi Nan, How much time do you have and what kind of gardens are you
interested in? If I have 10ish days I like to start with a long weekend
in Paris and get over jet lag with gardens that I can walk to, and then
spend the rest of the trip in a region. I can make recommendations for
Normandy, the Loire Valley, or Central France (although maybe not in
May). You could also take a fast train to Nice and rent a car there for
some fantastic Mediterranean gardens.

Early May is just a wee bit early for some roses, although it's close
and you might get lucky but I wonder about the azaleas and rhododendrons
at Bois des Moutiers (Normandy). I have not seen them in spring yet but
there are some pictures from my October trip on my web site.

Shameless plug: please check out the class being presented by L’Ecole
Nationale Supérieure du Paysage in Versailles, our featured plant is the
rose. It's a very different concept for garden travel. Like taking a
course at a major Botanical Garden with world class teachers, but in
France, with French teachers.

Subject: [GWL] Gardens in France

I am considering a trip to France in early May - One of those once in
a lifetime opportunities. I'd appreciate any suggestions for gardens
to visit while I am there, as well as ideas for approaching magazines
to see who might be interested in an article on some aspect of
gardening in France.

Thanks

Nan
