G'day garden lovers/friends of the earth

I'm new to the list and to writing. I'm thinking of becoming a writer mainly because people keep telling me I should write a book. I nearly failed English at high school (a lo-ooo-ng time ago). I have never had anything published and would appreciate any tips or suggestions you may have to begin.

As part of my voluntary work I do a lot of talks to garden clubs and community groups and have been following with interest the discussion about going with digital projection. I was "stung" myself recently when I did a talk at a so-called university of technology where the technology left a lot to be desired and left me feeling quite embarrassed. After being assured the equipment was compatible with Mac OSX, needless to say, it wasn't. Fortunately I had a video to show while the IT person tried to sort it out [to no avail] and eventually had to show it on my small screen. I agree wholeheartedly with comments about Powerpoint, I wouldn't touch MS Windows with a ten-foot pole. At home I use Appleworks 6 where the word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, paint, draw and i-Photo documents are all easily combined into one file/presentation/slide show with manual override. I can even add music.

That's excellent Daryl, here's another Chinese Proverb for you:
"If you want to be happy for a day get drunk; if you want to be happy for a week kill a pig [read: hog]; if you want to be happy for a year get married; if you want to be happy forever make a garden."
