I agree Gene - the one thing that cannot be in the speaker's control though is the microphone - and I think almost every presenter I know has had to 'wing it' when the microphone was on the blink. Indeed, Gene and I were at the same venue last yr when the audio was on the blink!!  I learnt the hard way about being prepared when I did a presentation on Cottage Gardens at a rural county fair.  They hadn't even anticipated slides, so we had to improvise a screen, fortunately I had just purchased a new slide projector and had that in the car with an extension cord!.
 
I have been looking this afternoon at digital projectors and they seem to come in a variety of 'portability' options (and price etc), but one was described as a 'Portable Presentation Kit', so included the projector, the screen, and a carrying bag.
