Wow - a lot of activity about this the last few days..
I made my first digital projector and Power point presentation just this week-end so this "old-timer" can now have something to say. What a disaster ! And thank you to Rich Pomerantz for suggesting alternatives. Now, having the liberty to have just read 3 days worth of great discussion here, I will say:
Yes, I will learn a better presentation program and will eventually have to do it this way, but as a photographer who depends upon highest quality for my livelihood, I will not make digital presentations if they deteriorate the quality. It is no big deal to carry around a projector and slide tray and set up side-by-side, if necessary, to a digital projector.
I can see how writers and educators will prefer a digital presentation and I thought it would be appropriate for my presentation last week-end on how I manipulated a series of fine prints I an starting to sell. In a nutshell, I needed to show text and various Photoshop screen capture images of my process. (Anyone wanting to see this series of Giclée rose prints from the Smith& Hawken books I did can see them at http://www.saxonholt.com/roseprints.html) The process is quite complex so I had my daughter teach me and set up my Power Point presentation. Looked good on my laptop but awful in the room. The audience was quite forgiving and impressed by my process but I sure learned a lesson. (And forgot one too - never do an unrehearsed presentation).
We all have to adapt, but until it is both better and easier, I will hold out for sake of quality. See my next posting on digital cameras.
