Re: gardenwriters Digest, Vol 36, Issue 3 Toronto gardens
I lived in Toronto and some of the surrounding areas for several
years, many years ago, so I don't know if the following information is current.
In Toronto, if you happen to like conservatories, the Allen Gardens
is/were wonderful. they are in the center of a small park which
is/was nicely landscaped. In Niagara Falls, despite all the glitz,
there is a wonderful glass house, with many rooms of interesting
plants. The grounds around are also well landscaped, and the Niagara
River and falls are across the street.
There is a butterfly garden/house somewhere near Niagara on the Lake
and the horticultural school has some wonderful landscaping and
plantings. That area is/was one of the mildest of the Niagara
peninsula area and so could support plants that would be marginal
in Toronto, Hamilton, St Catherines, Niagara Falls or Welland.
The area is a wonderful area to explore. Toronto does have some
wonderful private gardens, I am sorry I no longer have information about them.
