I was asked to write for a start-up magazine, and grant all rights. I 
refused. Never heard from them again.
I once wrote for a newspaper to whom ( to which?) I agreed to grant first 
rights.
Saw my stuff in another paper that they also published. Queried them on it. 
No reply. The next edition of that second paper had my reprinted column 
noted as "Previously Published in __________ Newspaper. They thought that 
resolved the issue.
I don't write for them anymore.
I once wrote for a start-up magazine that said they couldn't afford to pay 
me but would when things got better. I did this in response to an earlier 
thread on this list where the general consensus seemed to be that sometimes 
you literally gave your work away in hopes of better returns down the road. 
They folded after 3 or 4 issues ...but the mileage I got out of that one 
article more than made up for what they didn't pay initially.

At what cost integrity?
