Re: gardenwriters Digest, Vol 60, Issue 10
This lurker just has to brag a bit. Went to an obscure DNR site on the
lower end of Puget Sound yesterday and saw not one, but two pair of
Smew. Had an out-of-town guest in tow and, @#$%, forgot the camera.
On Christmas morning, with a full house of relatives and friends, a
pileated woodpecker chose to feed at our tail-drop suet station
hanging on the deck where everyone had time to peek through the
kitchen door by turns to oooh! and aaahh!
Our half acre of retirement paradise in the Tacoma area has 6 mature
Douglas firs and several mature rhodies, so there's lots of cover for
the birds. We enjoy the Anna's hummers year round and feed all comers
(including, alas, several feeder chewing squirrels). Our neighbors
feed also, so we have a constant parade.
