Re: spam link up-tick

I simply set my comments so that I have to approve them. I'm normally
at my computer anyway, being almost borglike where it's concerned, and
it's easy to read a comment, check it if I'm unsure about the poster,
and reject it if it's not legitimate--or, as in one case yesterday, is
a frothing neo-con tirade posting apologia for Bush's 8 years as a
damper to the celebration of the US inauguration.

If I'm away or it's an overnight resulting in a multiple of comments,
I simply go to Blogger's comment moderation page, read them all and
batch-approve them, or cut out any that are spamlike. I did have a
spell of a few posts written in some Sino-type script several weeks
ago, but I merely rejected them all.

The fact that I have to approve comments seems to keep spam down to a
minimum. I think this is more effective than putting up the text
capchah or whatever it's called. A human spammer can get around those
for a while, at least until the blog owner reads the comments (if they
ever do--I wonder about some blogs, who I never see respond to
comments on their site or any where else.)

cheers, jodi
