Re: Why do you blog?
Donna,
I'm blogging as a way to put out the subject matter that I use when speaking to non-gardening AND gardening groups. When I started the blog, Whole Life Gardening, I posted on the message board that Amy Stewart started, asking for advice from other bloggers. Many of them said something like "find your own voice and purpose for the blog," and this is what I've tried to do.
Recently I contacted an agent/book packager/publisher, found through a friend, and asked to have a meeting about a book that I'm working on. She agreed and in late December I went to NYC to meet her and talk about my proposal. The first thing she said to me after we greeted and were seated was "I like you blog!" Frankly, I think that the blog sold her more on this project than my proposal did. She's agreed to work with me and we have a phone meeting set up for early February.
I also blog for my radio audience - it's a way for them to see some of the plants I talk about on my program, and to have the correct names for those plants in front of them.
And finally, I am blogging for myself. I've discovered that because I feel the need to post at least twice a week, it forces me to be more thoughtful from day to day.
