GWA awards
I think the solution to the question of how to judge blogs/websites is to
handle them entirely differently. Have an online competition like the
Bloggies. Colleen Vanderlinden has been doing a wonderful job of this all
by herself with the Mouse & Trowel awards. GWA could either lend its
support to that effort somehow, or do something like it.
The idea would be to judge the blog as an ongoing experience, not a discrete
piece of writing here and there, and to let the voting happen online by its
readers. It's a different medium and it needs a different approach.
Then, if somebody has written an article or essay that they want judged as
an individual piece of writing, they should be able to submit that for a
writing award, whether it was published in a magazine, newspaper, or online.
just a thought...
