Re: GWA awards
I too thought it odd that pages from a blog had to be printed out for
submission for an award. This said to me that GWA was behind the times,
because anyone familiar with gardening blogs knows you have to experience
them online. The obvious thing to do would be to have bloggers provide their
URL and entry fee, and for the judges to sit down at a computer and peruse
the blogger's site.
Incidentally, I call my posts on www.gardeninggonewild.com "photo essays."
Although I am first and foremost a writer, I blog in captions. The Internet
is the future of information dissemination, and it is a highly visual
medium.
Digital photography makes illustrating a blog easy. Anyone who is doing
online videos is ahead of the game. Case in point: Landscape
designers/garden writers Shirley Bovshow and Ivette Soler are now producing
their own online gardening shows which are a hybrid of videos, blogging and
TV. If this trend continues, GWA will soon need a category for that, too.
