Re: Contract Question

First question. Who owns the rights? Have they reverted to you?

Point - 25% is the industry standard but as somebody pointed out - gross
versus net is critical and quite frankly, even at 25% you won't make a lot.

For example, if a 10.00 ebook is sold on Amazon. Assuming it's a large
file size, the publisher will usually use a 35% royalty rate because of the
"delivery" charges Amazon charges based on the size of the ms. (if there
are a lot of pics - count on the 35%)

The publisher then receives $3.50 Gross or Net from there?

At 10% of Net, you won't pay for the coffee-energy it will take to walk to
the mailbox. ;-) At 25% of Net you might afford the coffee but....

On the other hand, if you own the rights and / or can have them reverted
and if the topic is marketable - then it may be a candidate for doing it
yourself.

Simply more food for thought. At this point, I never, ever give up
e-rights to anything unless there's a goodly amount of money in it. I'll
take the 35% for the small amount of work involved in formatting a book for
Amazon.
