Checked with one of the pr folks for Mantis and the company is just fine; no
problems
On the other hand, the Harrisburg Patriot, newspaper in Harrisburg, PA had
an article announcing that United Technologies, owner of Ames and True
Temper Tool Company was looking to sell that company because it was in
financial difficulty.  There was no discussion of bankruptcy; just the
dreaded "financial difficulties".  They are the biggest hand tool company in
the country.  True Temper bought out Ames several years ago and cut budgets
at Ames by a very large amount.  According to a friend on the inside, it
looks a lot like the big corporation buys the two little guys, guts them,
and then sells the skeleton.   It's not the first time and probably won't be
the last; it is just a part of the capitalistic system I don't like very
much.
On another front, the lawn and garden section of the Chicago Hardware Show
will be moving its venue starting next year.  The show will be run by the
Lawn And Garden Manufacturers Association and will possibly be in
Minneapolis in June.  June is the key selling time in the industry which is
why the Chicago show in August was becoming less and less important to most
of the larger manufacturers.  The unions in Chicago were pricing the trade
show out of this world.  I wonder if that move will affect the security of
lack of same for the Louisville Power Tool Expo, usually held in late July.
Such turmoil.
