I doubt that we on this list are much different from the various
electronic gardening forums in which I participate - I receive, read,
and respond postings on a daily basis when home. I don't bring a
computer along on trips away from home and I don't use any optional
means to read email messages.

This same pattern of participation on various gardening lists (for
example <www.gardenweb.com>) seems to demonstrate people who are using
the web do garden and communicate without it affecting their outdoor
activities.

I doubt that this internet activity has reduced the number of
subscriptions to gardening publications. Does anyone have reliable
information to support this theory?

The problems of publishing any magazine in today's cost cutting economic
environment is most likely to blame, especially if poor management of
the business is involved.

I wonder what the advertisers think of the suggestion that the
publications in which they advertise are NOT READ until gardening
activities cease in colder climates?

I bet it gives ad agency executives an ulcer to even consider the
possibility.
