correct plant names

Peter - five years ago? It's a bit older than that - I read in high school (30 years ago!) many of your same complaints (ok maybe not the movie star one) penned by a fellow named De Tocqueville in 1831!

Oh NO! You mean it's actually an essential part of being an American to question authority!? egads! Let's pass a horticultural patriot act to remedy this horror!Send the offenders off without a lawyer to Guantanamo!

Sorry for the thread drift, Lon, I couldn't resist. And for the record, I always use the botanical name & try to educate others to do so (I am not now nor have I ever been a member of.....)

<Once and for all: This nation is on a downward slope because about 25 years ago (give or take five years), the American zeitgeist (or whatever passes for it) decided to go the politically correct route and at the same time dumb down America! It is in everything we do from the time we wake in the morning and turn on the news to the time we go to bed and bid adieu to world events. Our politicians, our educators, our fellow Americans have now decided that either the citizenry rejects education or are not worthy of it. The Bohemian Class is now struggling to stay afloat. There is a pronounced war on intellectuals, our movie stars are basically grown children, our basic movies are produced for the age group under 25, our TV newscasters spend more time on makeup than they do on story preparations--need I go on?>
