I'd bet a bunch "Toma Bellas" are just stuffing tomatoes. The more common variety is the Yellow Stuffer, but there are red ones available. Seed Savers' regular catalog offers "Striped Cavern," red with yellow stripes. Regular breeding could eliminate the stripes if necessary, but I think there are regular red stuffing tomatoes too, in which all of the seeds and the placenta are attached directly below the stem, and the rest of the tomato is hollow. A fresh produce ezine to which I subscribe had the following on a new vegetable hitting markets. Does anyone know about this? Doreen Howard Toma Bellas are a hybrid fruit of tomatoes and bell peppers. Toma Bellas have the sweet flavor of the tomato with the crispy, crunchiness of bell pepper. Intense red in color with a squatty-bell shape, Toma Bellas maintain their crispness after cooking. Stuff with cold salads, fill and bake, or use them to serve dips and sauces. _______________________________________________ gardenwriters mailing list gardenwriters@lists.ibiblio.org http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/gardenwriters GWL has searchable archives at: http://www.hort.net/lists/gardenwriters Send photos for GWL to gwlphotos@hort.net to be posted at: http://www.hort.net/lists/gwlphotos Post gardening questions/threads to "Organic-Gardening" <organic-gardening@lists.ibiblio.org> For GWL website and Wiki, go to http://www.ibiblio.org/gardenwriters
