Re: Correct plant names
I have written some thirty books (a members of this list was one of my
editors). In every book I have used scientific names, plus the derivations
of many of these names (often more interesting than plant material), and in
my current books, the first on Thomas Jefferson and the second on
ornamental grasses, neither editor has asked me to dumb it down. But my
publishers include Timber Press, Stackpole, Cool Springs Press, and
Peachtree in Atlanta, all of whom have never asked me to do anything except
be accurate. I am not going to get into the argument about a few sea
creatures that share names with plants but there's a very good reason they
do. The info is available if you search it out. Best, Peter. And a Happy
Fourth--as The New Yorker wrote this week, about the only holiday that,
regardless of fireworks, has not been truly decimated and destroyed. P
