DC is basically USDA z 7-8. Surrounding MD and VA can be anything
from the warmer end of z 6 to almost z8 - in the built-up areas with
lots of concrete. Think z7 and you'll be OK
Yes, September is too early to put gardens to bed around here - just
turning nice after the broiling summer, then. Our peak fall color
doesn't happen until October. Early to mid November is more like it.
Usually get my first hard frost late October, often there's then a
nice period, but by Thanksgiving, all tender stuff needs to have been
brought in under cover, etc., etc., etc.
