Re: Now what?

The question of staying to one topic is a common problem faced by many listserves and chat groups like GWL.  One particular list that I am on covers a wide range of material so to “code” the information, so subscribers can weed out information they don’t want, we use subject tags.  I first thought it a pain but have grown accompanied to the fact.  For cultural issues we use CULT, for issues dealing with hybridizing we use HYB, just to name a few.  Are we to that point?

Perhaps it is just eminent that garden writers are going to have a tendency to discuss what they truly love and write about, gardening.  The issues of our writing, the topics of our books and articles, and the fun we have is all associated with gardening.  I don’t see that a little discussion about it is all that bad, even if the list is topically oriented to the nitty-gritty of the writing world.  Remembering back a couple of weeks ago, the discussion for several days was about cameras, equipment, incorporating etc. and then it shifted a bit.  I think this shifting from the centrality of the “topic” is healthy for a list because it allows people some freedom and space to breathe.

Hopefully these few pennies can help somebody.
