Lollipop geberas

There was a thread on this a couple of weeks ago. Like many, I had seen them
this spring, but my Scottish heritage would not permit me to pay 22 bucks
for a gerbera. Admittedly, some were spectacular, but some were ho-hum.
Recently, like others here, I found them significantly discounted and bought
a couple. No blooms, no tags, so I'm not sure what I have.

More important, I have no idea what a Lollipop gerbera is. Google gave me
page after page with little enlightenment. There is no plant patent number,
and Lowe's web reference number is worthless, as usual; I don't know why
they put that on the tags. It doesn't seem to be a strain, so I'm guessing
purely a marketing term. Do they come from a single breeder? Who developed
the marketing? Does anyone know the history?
