Re: Young People and Gardening?

I think that is great in so many ways. Obviously getting kids involved
gives a new generation of gardeners, but in England particularly there was a
dirth of gardeners. Kids went to college to do design, which was more
profitable, but no one wanted to actually garden. This reached a crisis point
along with the economy that pushed many country estates reluctantly opening to
the public. Almost every county in England has a major home or two, and
with no one to look after the existing landscape there was real concern about
upkeep.
The fact that the kid was challenged with reading, just goes to show that
when a spark is lit, there is no stopping the fire.

Not to "stir the puddin' " more, but The Guardian is reporting a big
upturn in young gardeners - including one who improved his reading skills to be
able to read Gardeners' World.
