Re: Young People and Gardening?

I attended my chapter meeting of Master Gardeners last evening. One
of the activities was to tour the children's gardens. Our organization is
pretty active in this area and was presented with an award for the efforts
at last evenings meeting. Maximum number of children is 24. The aim was a 4
x 4 bed for each, but so far construction has provided enough that there are
2 to a raised bed. Veggies are the big focus, but there are flowers and
herbs as well. Also classroom instruction in about the same basics as the
normal MG classes, only scaled down for the younger minds. Classes are
filled this year. There is a waiting list for next year that has 6
youngsters on it already.
Hort is alive and well. Sometimes you just have to know where to
look.
