It is my turn to write the next "Working the Web" column for the upcoming issue of the GWA's "Quill and Trowel." The theme is POD, and this will be my third column on that topic. The first appeared in 2007. My deadline is July 16, and I will discuss interior color.
I'm interested in James Allison's comment, because while books with black and white interior have worked out pretty well in POD mode, color POD can still be too expensive and have quality control issues. Yet when it works it can be a good answer for garden books.
Do any of you have firsthand experiences with POD, color or otherwise? This includes posters and prints. What services have you used? How did it go? What about using your own laser or other printer rather than commercial printing and binding? What are you looking for from POD? Contact me on the list or off. The column is supposed to be ultra short, around a thousand words, so although I may be able to quote you it cannot be a lengthy quote.
Best wishes, Betty Betty Mackey, Publisher B. B. Mackey Books www.mackeybooks.com betty@mackeybooks.com----- Original Message ----- From: "James Allison" <jallison@aquapic.com>
Has anyone used a POD publisher recently? She had ordered up a sample copy before her full print run, but was dissatisfied with the results and took it up with the printer who ran a number more copies, again not up to her demanding standards.
