Re: Kindle
Judy,
I just can't afford an iPhone...the monthly service and fees would kill
me...however, the Kindle...or whatever...would allow me to save a whole lot
of book storage space in my house. I think I'll have a hard enough time
adapting to reading off a screen...the iPhone is just too small for a
starting point...maybe later...
Your point is well taken on paperbacks versus hard cover books. Reader eBook
prices are usually at or below a paperback price and significantly below a
hard cover...even with sales, coupons and at big box stores. I used to buy
hard covers of certain authors to keep...mostly Mystery types for personal
enjoyment...to build a library. Well, as I get older, I only want a few
authors and my garden, landscape and home improvement books...with no room
for my expanding library...
Now I buy paperbacks, usually on sale...and after I read them, I donate them
to our local literacy group...actually one in a nearby county. By the time I
write off the donation, I've spent about $2 (at most) a book. I encourage
everyone to donate books to their local literacy groups. They use them for
teaching and encouraging their students to read...they need a lot of
subjects...and...you get a tax write off...(currently anyway...hopefully, we
won't lose it...)

Actually, as I understand it, Amazon did not announce that Kindle books were
outselling all print editions, only that they were outselling hardcovers,
which is a different thing.
Hardcovers typically cost at least twice the price of the Kindle version.
And Sandie, while I can't give advice on ebook readers -- although most
reviews give Kindle the edge -- I would like to encourage anyone with an
iPhone to download the free Kindle app.
I thought the print would be way too small to read books on the iPhone but
my younger son said it wasn't and urged me to give it a try. I did and love
it.
Speaking from personal experience, moving thousands of pounds of books isn't
fun or cheap. Much better to have my fiction reading in the palm of my hand.
