Re: Re RoundUp?

Doreen, I am very anti Roundup, however have used it with a paintbrush
on Canadian Thistle. I do not spray it. I did a Google search on the
use of vinegar to see if boiling it down would increase the pH .
Answer is no. Rats. While thistle is very sensitive to it and will
top kill almost immediately it does not translocate and kill the
roots. Thanks to snow cover all winter we had a shallow freeze and my
thistle went
bananas over the winter as did bind weed. I will be using the vinegar
but expect the thistle to return. The recommendation is to let it get
4 to 6 new leaves and
then hit it again and again and again. Eventually you will win out.
Nancy -

Sandy, It should not surprise you that Michigan Master Gardeners
recommend the use of Roundup and the generic Pronto. Hortheads at MSU
love the stuff
and teach its use in the Master Gardener Manual. N
