USDA Climate Zones
The USDA Climate Zones are east-coast centric. For example, many plants listed as hardy up to zones 8 or 9 actually will grow happily in coastal southern California, which is zone 10. But it won't grow in Florida, so it's not given a zone 10 listing. I find the White Flower Farm website and catalog very helpful for more accurate zone information (at least for the plants they carry) because they list plants as hardy in, say, USDA Zone 4 - 8 S, 4 - 10 W.
