Novocaine for deer repellent?

Hi Everyone,

I just heard from a deliveryman that a local landscape designer has been
spraying Novocaine (she gets drums of it) on her own plants to keep deer
from eating them. Does anyone on this list know anything about this? Is
it an ecologically sound practice? Does it work? How long does it last?
Is there a current horticultural product on the market that incorporates
Novocaine?

A quick Google search showed that it can be purchased in large quantities
for "pharmaceutical, research, and horticultural use." Are there other
horticultural uses?

Thanks,
Lois
