Re: Strange ... good?
I've seen no Japanese beetles in my yard and none in the Children's Garden at Garfield Park, where there are grape vines and fruit trees. I saw very minor damage in a flower of a hardy hibiscus in a client's yard about 10 days ago.
Here in central Indiana, I think we see fewer of this bugs because this is our third summer of drought and excessively hot weather. The eggs/larva have a hard time burrowing into rock hard soil.

I found a Japanese beetle in mid-June, a good two weeks before their clockwork Fourth of July weekend annual appearance here in NE PA. I started looking for my Sevin (sorry, but I grow lots of roses). As it turned out, I didn’t need it. (Didn’t find it anyway, because I could only work my way about two feet into my garden shed.) Since Beetle Zero, I have not seen a single one. Usually by this time of summer my roses are swarming and pretty much devoured. (It’s not that Sevin doesn’t work, more like I often don’t get around to using it or using it regularly enough.) So, question: Has someone else bugnapped my beetles?
