Re: japanese beetles
Speaking of pruning back totally, the mild winter apparently led to a
great infestation of rust in Chicago. I thought I was the only victim
until I read an article in the Chicago Tribune about all the rust at
the Chicago Botanic Garden. My worst looking plant was my white
KnockOut which in the past had been my most productive, easiest to
care for plant. Basically I did nothing to it and it bloomed its head
off. This spring it was so ugly with orange spots that I was ready to
dig it out, then relented at the last minute and just cut it back to
the ground. The plant has rejuvenated itself and is now about 18
inches tall and blooming on pristine foliage.
