Re: Titan Blooming

Hello Duane and Doreen,
I have A. konjac on the front porch in leaf now. A friend sent me a black stemmed clone. Has not bloomed as yet but I grow it mostly for the foliage anyway, so not a problem. It has to go back into the greenhouse come fall. For the open garden I have Dracunculus vulgaris coming into bloom now. Common name of Devil's Arum. Variegated foliage form. About 4 feet in height. Bloom is a monster in size for quite a show... along with the scent. Earlier in the season Sauromatum venosum bloomed and dropped out of sight. Waiting now for the exotic tropical looking foliage to emerge. This one will have foliage in the garden until late in the season. And well worth having for the foliage. Scent is similar to a skunk with bad breath.
The men who visit want a plant to take home... females generally do not. Same with Arisaema which are in the same family.

On the other hand, I am often perturbed by the attention given to amorphophallus blooms. They are often stunning foliage plants. Amorphophallus titanum is a little too fussy for most gardeners, but A. konjac (formerly A, reverii) is a breeze. > D
