One of the most interesting plants and the biggest flower on the plant is the amorphophallus 'Titan.' It was my fortune to see the biggest one in the US to date bloom in 2001 at the Univ. of Wisconsin at Madison. One of the offspring from hand pollination of that bloom is about to open. Below is a link to a live stream--seen best if you have broadband. Check back later for still photos of the bloom. The open spath stinks like rotten fish to attract carrion flies that pollinate it in the Malaysian jungle. There are no carrion flies in the greenhouses of Wisconsin, so they hand pollination the spath by cutting a hole in it. Enjoy one of nature's stranger plants.
