Re: southern gardening


I don't know if I'm typical, but from Alabama:  I call my flower gardens my 
"garden," and my vegetable garden the "vegetable garden."  I also have a 
"berry garden" (blackberries, raspberries, strawberries), and a garden 
section called the "blueberry corner."  However, I think if you say 
"garden," most southerners still think you mean a vegetable garden.  When I 
mention my garden to people, I sometimes have to clarify what kind of garden 
I mean.

The times seem to be changing, though.  We (the Master Gardeners here) are 
constructing a demonstration garden which will be for ornamentals, not 
vegetables.

Garden never refers to landscaping in general here.
