Re: Yard vs Garden
I have a garden and a yard.
I know this thread began as a query concerning what was in a garden, flowers
or veggies.
We might not be sure what is in them but we know what they are.
What has piqued my interest here is the dismissive attitude towards a yard.
So far I've read words such as "utilitarian" and other less endearing terms
to describe a yard.
A yard has much more meaning to me. It is where our family played together.
In my yard, our eldest daughter scored her first goal, her first try and her
first sprained ankle. Youngest daughter led her parades and watched over her
menagerie. I played Frisbee and "look how slow you are, Dan," with Spectre
our companion of many years.
Yards might not be glamorous to us gardeners but they are essential living
spaces to us family folk.
Dan
