Re: Yard vs Garden
I've been interested in this thread. I too was once chastised by an
Englishman for referring to my yard. A yard is a pen for animals, I
was told. But in my American way of looking at things, I decided that
in this country, everybody has a yard, the grassy space surrounding
the house, and some people choose to turn part of it into a garden,
which can be flowers or vegetable or both. In other words, a
deliberately cultivated area.
