Re: Reliable lawn-care stats?
Judy,
good question. I've seen claims that lawns are dosed more heavily than farm fields, and I don't buy it. Here in Lancaster County, it's always time to spray herbicides or put some form of nitrogen on a field, usually manure. Newcomers find it hard to believe at first, but when you've lived here awhile you can tell the species of the feces (cow, pig, chicken) in a whiff. I know some lawn fanatics, but I've never seen anyone pour that much stuff on their personal sward. Golf courses? Maybe.

Subject: [GWL] Reliable lawn-care stats?
Does anyone know of some accurate lawn-care statistics? I read these figures of
how much water and fertilizer are poured on suburban lawns, only to find -- upon
really searching -- that they're estimates or extrapolations or include farm use
of fertilizer. Same with herbicides.?The ones I've seen are simply not
trustworthy.
?
I'd like some?reliable picture?of what individual homeowners are really doing. I
figure I've missed the right studies somehow.?Can anyone direct me in the right
direction?
?
Thanks,
Judy Lowe in Boston
