Re: Who SHOULD write a govt g'ing blog?

First I do think it appalling that local govt. needs a blog on gardens and
do not have the initiative to put 'garden writer' into the browser. It does
indeed bring up Garden Writers. But are 'writers' interested in
blogging??? Do they charge more than govt. can afford? Regardless, local govt
absolutely should hire local writers.

Then they add to the problem by not finding one locally - but how many DC
garden bloggers would notice and ad. on Problogger? Maybe they went to the
place that had bloggers and went for the only one that knew a gardenia from
a petunia.

I can say that over the last few yrs, I have seen posts that Safer Brand
(the organic based pesticides) want people for articles and blogs for their
website - they go for cheapest on the block that can write whole sentences
and my guess is that those writers do not have a container of Safer whatever
in the garage.

That said - sometimes global does work - in the past few yrs I have written
an ebook on strawberries for an Australian, the web content for a German
general garden site, and wrote the garden column for the Dubail 24/7
weekender section until the area got hit by the economy.

So does this help you? I truly think local knowledge is important for
gardeners but with the internet and govts putting meetings on the web and every
dept listing their classes, you can indeed do the word from the virtual
office.

But here's my question for you folks. How would you suggest a govt find a
gardenblogger? Here's the blog ino question.

I suggested they post the job announcement it to Garden Writers, and also
to any of DC's large gardening listservs.
