Re: Perennials low-maintenance, switching to Roses?

----- Original Message ----- From: "Dee Nash"

'Carefree Beauty' is the best rose in my garden.

I have Carefree Beauty, but it is not my favorite. For me, Carefree Wonder is better. But by far my favorite is the Meideland I planted some 20 years ago from a four inch pot. I have NEVER seen a leaf with black spot, and the red one now covers an area eight feet wide by 12 feel long by six feet high, right now just covered with blooms. Blooms repeat, and the hips draw birds in winter, flocks of them in late winter. A white Meideland in a different location is not quite as spectacular, but still no black spot.

I am presently trialing a number of newer roses, probably smaller, perhaps a good thing, but they will have to measure up to the Meidelands in performance. I don't grow Knock Out; I can walk overtown and see groves of them.
