Re: Garden pests and control

In PA, to the best of my knowledge, it's illegal to release rodents (including groundhogs) on public property, e.g. your local County park, and it's illegal to release them on private property without the owner's permission. Well, guess what? In Amish farm country, where I live, nobody wants a groundhog. They make large holes, into which a valuable animal (horse, mule, cow) can blunder and break a leg.
In my Havahart, I've found canteloupe works well; but so do apples, which are available most of the year and which cost a lot less.
Gophers can be controlled with an ingenious device involving a propane tank and a long wand with an igniter. But they're expensive.
