Well just had to respond to this. I have put in around 200 ponds/waterfeatures and retro-fitted another 100 or so, and put a lot of goldfish (actually comets, shibunkin, fantails, etc.) in those very ponds. What has happened in most cases is this. Frogs, lizards, turtles, dragonflys, butterflies, birds, birds, birds, praying mantis, etc. (even raccoons!) show up. In suburbia across the country where we are driving all living life out, it shows the resiliency to return, kids are happy, adults love their sanctuary, and nature has regained a tiny foothold as we trample are way across the American landscape. I gotta say this. This is one fight I would take on. The world is a Global community and we have to get used to it. If you want to fight non-naitve species fights, do something about the Brazilian pepper Tree in the Everglades, or Kudzo in the South, or the spread of pennisetums in certain parts of the country, or water hyacinths clogging natural waterways. But leave my goldfish alone!! Rick Anderson wcicrane@sssnet.com 495 Colony RD.
