Newspaper freelance submissions

Thanks, Brook.  Would some other newspaper freelancers or staff weigh in 
here with their experience?  Having never approached a newspaper in any 
manner, I haven't a clue, and I have some thoughts about pieces for 
which certain newspapers might be the obvious market.

I would especially like to hear from those who have sold to The New York 
Times, since they run in-depth science feature stories most like some I 
have in mind.  Also, the Oregonian, since it is my state paper, and is 
excellent.
