I wasn't involved in that near-flame war, however, I think I see why
rights issues become so volatile. Which rights matter to us to what
degree cuts way deep into the kinds of writing we do, the reasons we do
it, and our general career paths. So whenever we discuss rights issues
and we make declarations based upon our own experiences and career
style, it's easy to seem to be dissing someone else's equally legitimate
but quite different choices about kinds of writing and career styles and
paths.
