Linda,

The plant formerly known as Coleus caninus is now officially Plectranthus caninus. so it appears that "Scardy Cat" indeed falls within the range of my book.  The story sounds faintly familiar.  Herb Herbert's Traditional Herbs PTY. Ltd., formerly sold (perhaps still sells?) Plectranthus ornatus as a dog repellent under the name "Dog's Bane."  It is another stinky species, although I rather like the smell.  I have a lot of it in my patio, but it doesn't seem to deter the neighborhood cats from stalking birds here, nor does it keep out dogs.  But neither has been observed eating it, so maybe it has some value.  ;-)

I have sent Mr. Heimos an e-mail asking for a plant and information.  Thank you so very much for relaying this information.  And thanks to Lon for maintaining this valuable pipeline for information that would be a great deal more difficult for me to obtain if I weren't on this list.
