chain gardening magazines

Hi everyone.  I am new to this list serve so please
forgive me if I am asking a question which has
previously been answered.  I did search the archives
but still...  My question is whether anyone has had
any success managing to write for any of the "chain"
gardening magazines.  I am thinking specifically of
Better Homes and Gardens publications and Harris
publications.  When I look at my Chapters gardening
sections the majority of the magazines come from these
two publishers.  Is it open to freelancers?  Do we
send a regular query?  To whom - as each one seems to
have a different editor - ?
