Garden lectures

Lectures about gardening or anything else should stick to the topic. I can't count the number of times I've gone to a lecture, eager to hear more about a certain topic, only to be treated to some maundering about something else entirely. Often the worst offenders are teachers, current or retired. Sometimes the person at fault is the person who prepared the publicity, not bothering to inform the speaker of the topic she's/he's promoting. Fie on them too.
I know of one lecturer who refuses to speak on "whatever he wants." If those inviting him don't have a topic in mind, he refuses to speak. So do I. I don't think those people are serious about gardening, but just want someone to "read to them."
