adapting to metric

...reluctance.....to adapt.....to Metric
Hmmm
We call our Canadian System (the older group amongst us) the Imperial
System; the younger set uses Metric.(There is a definite generation gap here
but we're having difficulty measuring it!)
We call the American System the U.S. systems i.e. Imperial vs. U.S. gallons
Our government calls our system the Metric system but we're not sure if it
is actually based on the original French system or the British.
I'm not sure if I ever heard of the "English" system.

With such a mish-mash we've adapted to the various laws within our
boundaries and the international customers with whom we deal. The bottom
line, though, is we use whatever our customer wants.

A 300 cm tree is usually sold in a 15 gal container.
A 50 cm juniper is usually sold in a 2 or 3 gal container if that container
is plastic. If it is a fibre pot, we don't care about the size as long as it
fits: probably explains why FP is becoming more common, biodegradation is
not the issue.
A 45 mm tree may be sold in 20 gal container or a 24" wire basket.
Pumps might have a capacity measured in litres per hour on their package,
but we sell it in gallons per hour, and those are U.S gallons.
We sell 45 mil pond liner by the running foot.
All you have to do is sell one pond kit complete with landscaping to
encounter all these forms of measurement.
FWIW
Dan
