RE: US books in the UK

Dear Barbara,

As I sit at my computer, in the US, a tape measure is draped across my
lap because I am editing today. On one side, the tape measure is marked
to show inches and centimeters and on the other, it's marked for
centimeters and millimeters. It's part of my "editing equipment" because
I routinely add either inches and feet or centimeters and meters,
depending on whether I am editing for the US or Canada and the UK. But I
add rather than substitute.

My preference is to include both sets of measurements so that no one,
including those with a minimal education, is confused. While Americans
with any sort of education are accustomed to using metric, or imperial,
measurements, people without an education, even those who garden, are
often intimidated by them.

So my vote is to use both types of measurements so that no one gets left
out.
