With a blog I can list upcoming lectures, lecture topics, photographs and all kinds of things. As time goes by I'm hoping that the blog would be a reference that I can add to my resume.

(I'm just discussing this because I'm interested - I have no
axe to grind here, so I hope I'm not coming across as

You wouldn't consider learning to design and maintain your
own website? It's not very difficult. I do it. I have a
fairly basic knowledge of HTML (learned from reading a book
or two about it) and no particular design skills.

We pay $8.95/month for web hosting, by the way. There are
cheaper options too. We could probably have our site hosted
for free if we were willing to have it hosted by our ISP.
Many ISPs give an allotment of space to each subscriber.

I'm just wondering whether it wouldn't be better to have
your own site? More professional-looking? Maybe not, maybe
I'm mistaken about it.
