Re: Flower Shows and Opportunity for Writers

Organizations and businesses apply to be part of the Philadelphia Flower Show with a booth or exhibit, and there are many costs (some of which are tax deductible) involved.

Certain volunteer and educational organizations are invited to participate, but there is also an application procedure. Here is a page with links for further info and for asking individual questions. I'm sure the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society will explain everything.

To my knowledge, the Delaware Valley Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society has been exhibiting at the flower show annually since the 1960's, maybe even earlier. For the 2005 show the group was awarded a larger exhibit space because of the high quality of previous exhibits.

Many garden writers (including many on this list) participate in the show individually by lecturing there, working on exhibits, writing about the show, and doing book signings.

The recent posts about the Philadelphia flower show, especially the post from Betty Mackey, have me posing another question about the show. What's the best way for a plant society to exhibit a garden at the Philadelphia flower show?
