Re: Flower Show's and Opportunity for Writers

The recent posts about the Philadelphia flower show, especially the post from Betty Mackey, have me posing another question about the show. What's the best way for a plant society to exhibit a garden at the Philadelphia flower show?

Last week I was approached by someone who asked me if I'd design a daylily garden for the show. Does anybody have any idea if there is a waiting list (if so, how long?) and who I would contact to find out if this is a possibility?

In a few weeks another one of my Children's Gardens will be exhibited at the Hofstra Flower and Garden Show at Hofstra University & Arboretum in Uniondale, NY so I'm experienced in putting together flower show displays.

This year's theme for the Children's Garden is musical, I've planned a garden around a marching band. The lawn will be painted to look like a football field, on it will be scarecrows made from copper pipe and dressed in Marching Band Uniforms. The garden shed will look like a press box, and the bar-b-que area will have an SUV with a tail-gate party spilling out of the back.

I've also arranged a "meet the author" booth at the show and several GWA members have signed up to sell their books there at no cost to them. If you are interested, please contact me at melaniev@optonline.net

By the way, sorry for that oops posting on Monday :-)

You may be thinking of the exhibit created by the North American Rock Garden Society, Delaware Valley Chapter, which featured many native plants of the eastern and western USA, including Lewisia and Clarkia.
